My 1 on 1 mentorship experience
How Mentorship and a Personal Boudoir Shoot Transformed My Photography
As a boudoir photographer, my journey has been deeply personal and transformative, especially over the past year. I had the incredible opportunity to engage in a one-on-one mentorship with a photographer I have long admired, Danielle Martine, at her studio in Connecticut. I also experienced being on the other side of the lens in my own personal boudoir shoot.
Learning from a Master
When I first reached out to Danielle, I was filled with a mix of excitement and nervousness. Her work had always resonated with me—her ability to convey raw emotion and delicate beauty through her images was something I deeply aspired to. Her studio is also to die for! If she didn't find her calling as a boudoir photographer, she would absolutely slay as an interior designer.
One of the most impactful aspects of our mentorship was observing her approach to lighting and composition. She taught me to embrace shadows, to play with contrast, and to see light as a sculptor sees marble—an essential element to carve out the essence of my subject. She had a model come into her studio and we went through an entire photo shoot together where I was able to see exactly how she poses and lights her clients.
The Personal Shoot: Stepping into Vulnerability
An important part of my mentorship with Danielle was to experience my *own* personal boudoir session! I wanted to understand, firsthand, what my clients feel during a session. The experience was both liberating and enlightening! I'll have to share the photos from my session in another blog post because they're incredible!
A New Era of Carly Boudoir
As an artist, my style and vision is constantly evolving. Each photo is a story, a piece of art that reflects the unique beauty of the person in front of my lens. I'm so grateful to Danielle for helping me create images that are intimate, authentic, and artfully composed. My work has evolved to embrace a more fine art approach, blending classic boudoir elements with contemporary, artistic flair.
I feel so lucky to capture the beauty, strength, and individuality of each woman who steps in front of my camera, creating timeless pieces of art that celebrate the essence of who they are.
